Five Deputy Chief Ministers would represent the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, BCs and Minorities and Kapu community.
Andhra Pradesh chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Friday (June 07) decided to appoint 5 Deputy Chief Ministers under his 25-member cabinet.
Mr. Reddy in a meeting with the YSR Congress party MLAs has taken the decision and the five deputy Chief Ministers would represent the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, BCs and minorities and Kapu community.
This is the first time in India that a state will have five deputy Chief Ministers.
Mr. Reddy said the Cabinet would be reconstituted two and a half years later after a mid-term review of the government’s performance.
YS Jagan Reddy’s decision to have five deputies is seen as a radical step that is aimed at pleasing all the communities of the society.
A chief minister heads a State Government’s council of ministers and can be deputed in that role by a deputy chief minister.
